GUIDEBOOK: Multi-page Spreads, Illustration, Layout
This is a fun passion project created when I was a student in 2019 and updated in 2020. The brief was to create a guidebook for a real or fictional area to allow someone to navigate the area. I chose Pokémon (a fictional Nintendo video game) for this assignment which gave me an opportunity to try out saturated colors and adapt my illustration into design. The square dimensions of this book were a welcomed challenge to work with as any slight imbalance or error will be seen instantly compared to standard rectangular printing dimensions.

I designed this project as if someone in the video game were using it. Most of the characters are quite young, barely teenagers. I opted for a soft, easy to read, and rounded font called Nunito. I also used the primary colors.
Based on the Hawaiian islands, the Alola region is known for its connection to nature. I chose to use bright, saturated colors to capture the vibrant lands.
Each island is color coordinated in the game, so to add continuity to each of the island's branding I kept them the same.
